Addressing the Combined Sewer Overflow

Some portions of the City's sewer system also accept stormwater run-off.  These combined systems provide the benefit of treating stormwater pollutants at our wastewater treatment plant.  However, the draw-back is that extreme snow-melts and rain events can overwhelm the lines running to the plant and result in some of the mixed stormwater and sewer releasing into Stevens Brook at Lower Welden Street.  The City is working to address this situation and reduce the number of releases.
