Can I renew a vehicle registration in your office?
Yes. We need the renewal paperwork provided by the DMV with a check or money order made out to the DMV. We cannot process a credit card or cash transaction for the DMV. There is a $3.00 fee to be paid to the City for processing the renewal that can be paid by cash, check or charge separate from the renewal fee.
Do I need a lawn sale permit?
Yes. Stop by the City Clerk's office during business hours. The permit is good for 10 days. There is no fee for the first two permits. The 3rd permit will be $10, 4th permit $15. More information can be found here
How do I obtain a Green Mountain State Park Pass?
Stop by the City Clerk's office to complete the application with your ID. You must b e a resident of St. Albans City, be 62 years of age or older or a VT veteran. It is good for life and costs $2.00.
Is genealogical research available?
We can look up some information to get started. Any in depth research should be through Vermont Genealogy Library at www.vtgenlib.org/
Can I research properties?
Yes, you can call to make an appointment to come into our office to search our recording database. Access to online Land Records with images dating back to 1897 can be found here.
How do I find out who owns a property?
We can give you the owner/corporation's name since it's public information in our land records data base, but do not give out phone numbers.
How do I register to vote?
You may register to vote in the City Clerk's office during business hours or you may visit My Voter Page. You may also request ballots, update information and see ballot status.
How do I obtain a copy of my property tax bill?
Property tax bills are mailed out to property owners one a year but can be reprinted in our office. Email requests for tax bills are encouraged and recommended.
What are your office hours? Do you close for lunch?
We are open Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, excluding holidays. We do not close for lunch.
Do I need to register my dog every year?
Yes. All dogs within the City must be registered each year by April 1st with proof of rabies vaccine. For more information, please visit here.
When are interest and penalties posted on late bills?
Interest and penalties are posted on the 5th of each month. If the 5th falls on a weekend, interest and penalties are posted on the next business day.
Is there a fee to pay my water/sewer bill and property tax bill online?
You may pay your City bills online here. Property tax payments and any payments made with the exception of water/sewer payments will be assessed a 2.65% charge when using a debit/credit card online. There is a processing fee of $1.50 to pay by check online. There is no fee to pay your water/sewer bill online. There is also no additional processing fee for any payments made in person with a credit or debit card.
How do I obtain a marriage license?
An application form must be completed and signed by both parties. Once a license is issued, it is valid for 60 days to be married in the State of Vermont only. The parties are responsible to reserve a location, pastor, Justice of the Peace, etc. For more information, please visit here.
How do I obtain a birth or death certificate?
You will need to visit the City Clerk's office during office hours, fill out a form required by the State of Vermont and must have a valid ID. For more information, please visit here.
Do you provide a notary service?
Notary services are free of charge and there are notaries located in the City Clerk's office as well as on the second floor of City Hall. A valid driver's license must be presented. For a list of documents that cannot be notarized, please visit here
