Detecting Pollution in the City's Stormwater System
The City's stormwater utility tests sections of our stormwater system every year for sources of pollutants that should be found and eliminated. This is also known as "illicit discharge detection and elimination" (IDDE). At this webpage, we will post our annual testing reports and updates on sources of pollution that have been eliminated.
NOTICE:
The City has detected a discharge of E. coli and other pollutants from outfall 14C, which empties into Stevens Brook near the Lincoln Avenue bridge. Warning signage has been placed in the area. The City is in the process of determining and removing the source of the pollution.
In 2024, the City has also detected possible pollution in outfalls 14S, 39_2, 40, 42, 43_A, and 43B_C. The City will continue to verify whether pollution is present and then to locate and eliminate the sources. Click here for a map of City outfalls.
