St. Albans Recreation Department is hiring a Grounds and Facility Maintenance person at The Hard’ack Recreation Area.  This position plays a vital role in ensuring the functionality, safety and aesthetic appeal of a property.  This multifaceted position requires a blend of skills ranging from basic carpentry and plumbing to landscaping. The ideal candidate will be a jack-of-all trades, capable of performing routine maintenance tasks, identifying potential issues before they become problematic and executing minor repairs and improvements to maintain the property’s overall condition.

Recreation/Hard’ack Grounds & Facilities person

 

Reports to: Recreation Director

Hiring Range: $40,000- $46,000

 

Nature and Scope of Position:

  • This position reports to the Recreation Director and performs all types of maintenance and repair jobs to keep the buildings and grounds of the Hard’ack Recreation Area safe, aesthetically pleasing and functional for both the public and recreation programming during all seasons. The ideal candidate will be a jack of all trades, capable of performing routine maintenance tasks, identifying potential issues before they become problematic, and executing minor repairs and improvements to maintain the property’s overall condition.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and maintain schedule for daily, weekly, monthly, seasonal & annual jobs to be done.
  • Maintain equipment in good working order.
  • Repair and handyman jobs as needed to include paining, basic carpentry, basic plumbing and landscaping.
  • Seasonal tasks to prepare the ski hill for winter, learn and prepare the snowmaking system, integral in the removal and replacement of the pool dome in spring and fall – work with contracted company. 
  • Snow Removal – both plowing and hand shoveling.
  • Trail clean up and maintenance.
  • Ensuring heating/cooling system are operational -work with contracted company.
  • Help set up and take down for special events.
  • Ensure recreational features are in good, safe working order.
  • Keep the entire area looking good and free of trash.
  • Communicate in a professional manner with patrons and staff.

  • Knowledge of basic landscaping, carpentry & plumbing.
  • Knowledge of basic repair and up keep of machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to earn certification of Certified Pool Operator within 12 months from start of employment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues.
  • Physical stamina.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Participate in trainings as they come available.

 

Education, Training and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • 2 years relevant experience preferred.
  • Plowing experience preferred.
  • CDL not necessary, but preferred.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

  • Hard’ack is a beautiful, natural outdoor area. This is a maintenance position at a four season recreation area.  The candidate will be working outdoors in all conditions at all times of the year.   They must be prepared for out-door work.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
