Who do I contact if I have a sewer problem at my residence?
Anytime you are experiencing a sewer issue during business hours, please call Public Works at (802) 524-1500 ext. 253. If you are experience an emergency after business hours, please contact Public Works by calling the Police Dispatch non-emergency number, 802-524-2167 so Public Works can check the main line. If the mains are flowing properly, the City will let you know so you can have your service line repaired or jetted. Per the City Ordinance, the line from the house to the main is the responsibility of the homeowner.
What do I do if I've lost water pressure and/or have discolored water?
Contact Public Works or Police Dispatch (non-emergency number) if after hours and Public Works will investigate the issue.
Who do I contact regarding an issue with the power, cable or telephone lines?
The City of St. Albans doe snot maintain the power, cable or telephone lines in the City.
There is a tree in the greenbelt that needs to be maintained. Who's responsibility is it?
Trees in the green belt are maintained by the City. Please contact Public Works with any issues.
I just purchased a property in St. Albans. How do I put the water/sewer account in my name?

I am selling my property; how do I request a final water/sewer reading for my closing?
Please complete and return the Final Water Bill Request Form and return to Kristen Smith, k.smith@stalbansvt.com.
When is an Excavation Permit required and what are the costs associated?
The best practice is to contact the City before any excavation occurs on or around your property. Please contact the Public Works Director, Marty Manahan at 802-309-1134 or 802-524-1500 Ext. 260. Once you receive the verbal "OK", you must pick up and complete an Excavation Permit on the second floor of City Hall. You will be billed after the digging is complete and pricing is dependent upon the area that was excavated as follows:
- Paved Areas Sidewalk -- $10.00/square foot
- Unpaved Area -- $2.00/square foot
- Total Paved Area -- $11.25/square foot
- Total Greenbelt Area -- $3.25/square foot
At what point would I need additional water or sewer allocation and what is the process for obtaining allocation?
Anytime a property is adding bedrooms or if there is a "change of use" in a commercial space, additional allocation is likely needed. How much does water and sewer allocation cost?
One equivalent unit of water allocation (450 gpd) is a onetime fee of $2000 and one equivalent unit of sewer allocation (450 gpd) is $3000.
