Fire Prevention and Health Inspections

As required by the City of St. Albans Ordinance (Title 7) all rental units are required to be inspected by the Fire Department no less than once every four (4) years.

Having an apartment inspected ensures that the apartment is checked for life safety concerns such as working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, adequate exits, lead paint, asbestos, electrical violations, and many other possible violations of the Vermont Fire Code, the Vermont Rental Housing Code, and the City’s Public Health & Safety Ordinance.

What follows are the predominant codes and ordinances either adopted by the City of St. Albans or by the State of Vermont – Division of Fire Safety that relate to fire and building safety.  In the event there is a conflict between the provisions of the code adopted by the State of Vermont – Division of Fire Safety and the ordinances of the City of St. Albans, the more stringent regulation shall prevail.
