Vehicular Noise Ordinance

On October 11, 2021, the St. Albans City Council adopted a Vehicular Noise Ordinance to promote the public health, safety and welfare by prohibiting excessive and disturbing noise from vehicles and their operation.  The new ordinance prohibits mufflers modified to be plainly audible from 50 feet away; unnecessary revving, acceleration, down-shifting or braking to make unreasonable noise; and vehicle sound systems that are plainly audible from 75 feet away in the daytime and from 50 feet away in the nighttime.  This will be enforced as a civil ordinance by the St. Albans Police Dept.  Fines will start at $150.
