David Southwick hired as City’s Planning & Permitting Administrator.

The City of St. Albans is pleased to announce that David Southwick has been hired to the position of Planning & Permitting Administrator.  His first day on the job was Monday, September 12.

David is a St. Albans resident with a master of arts degree from the University of Denver and a doctorate in education from Syracuse University.  After jobs in sports sciences, exercise physiology, product management and customer relations, he took the position of Executive Director of the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce in 2013.  He has also consulted small businesses on problem solving and customer relations and teaches applied math concepts at CCV in St. Albans.  David was selected for the City job from a competitive pool of candidates.

“Dave brings a varied background, an array of community connections, attention to detail and process, and superb customer service skills to our planning and permitting office,” says Chip Sawyer, the City’s Director of Planning & Development.  “I hope that the community will join me in welcoming him to our team.”

As Planning & Permitting Administrator, David is responsible for permitting and enforcement of the City’s Land Development Regulations.  As part of that capacity, he will staff the Development Review Board and Design Advisory Board.  David will also be involved in other work of the City Planning & Development department, including community development initiatives and dealing with new water quality requirements.

Says David, “I am pleased to join the St. Albans City team and excited to have the opportunity to continue my involvement in the growth activities of this community.”
