The 2nd Annual Mayor’s Photo Competition is now open to receive entries until June 30th, 2019. Last year’s event with a focus on Agriculture was a great success with 135 entries submitted! This year’s theme is “Lakes, Rivers and Waterways”. The photos can be black and white or color and should be sent electronically to t.smith@stalbansvt.com. All entries will be on display at a reception at City Hall on Thursday, July 11th, where attendees will vote on their favorite photos. The top 15 photos will then be enlarged and displayed in Taylor Park for 6 - 8 weeks, before being auctioned off to benefit the Friends of Northern Lake Champlain and the Missisquoi River Basin Association.
The First Annual Sunflower Festival is in the planning stages and will take place on August 2nd, 3rd and 4th. The event is being sponsored by the Franklin County Regional Chamber of Commerce, Scott Magnan Farms, the City of St. Albans and St. Albans Town. Please watch for more information at the St Albans Sunflower Festival Facebook page.
Here are a few suggestions for all of our residents to build community pride and help beautify our great City:
-
Please put an American flag out on your property every day, not just on Memorial Day and the 4th of July.
-
Please leave a porch light on every night. It is amazing how such a small gesture makes a big difference in a neighborhood.
-
Please plant a tree and perennial flowers. The City may have a tree for you to plant and can educate you about what trees are appropriate and where. Please contact Dave Southwick at City Hall, 524-1500 ext. *262.
Thank you!
Tim Smith
