Update On North Elm Street Railroad Crossing Improvements

Yesterday City Hall was sent a message directly from Vermont Transportation Secretary Brian Searles about the anticipated improvements for the railroad crossing on No. Elm St. This is a project long in coming and in high demand among City residents.
Secretary Searles has updated us with the good news that the project will clear administrative approvals at VTrans within the next few days. However he regrets to inform us that the construction window has passed, and the project will have to wait to be constructed in the Spring of 2013. He cited the continuing backlog of more than 600 projects around the state to address damage for Tropic Storm Irene as one of the reasons for the delay.
The City appreciates the Secretary's personal attention to this project and, we will continue to do whatever we can on our end to ensure construction ASAP in 2013.
