Vermont Civil Marriage Licenses & City of St Albans Justices of the Peace

Marriage Licenses

You may apply for a Vermont Marriage License at any Municipal Clerk's office; you must appear in person. You may complete the Civil Marriage Application at the Clerk’s office or download and print the PDF below and bring it with you. Please review the Civil Marriage Application to ensure you have all of the information required. Both party signatures are required on the application, and at least one party must appear in person to issue the license. The Clerk will ask for valid identification. Once issued, a marriage license is valid for 60 days, after which you must apply for a new license.

Fees: The fee is $80.00 for the license and $10.00 for your certified copy after the ceremony. The total of $90 is due when the license is issued.

If you are planning a destination wedding outside the U.S., you must inquire with the nearest consulate on how to proceed.

If you have additional questions, please refer to the informational PDFs "Getting Married in Vermont" and "Officiant Checklist" at the bottom of this page.  You can also email City Clerk Nicole Robtoy at n.robtoy@stalbansvt.com or Assistant City Clerk Jill Mullican at j.mullican@stalbansvt.com, and we will be happy to assist.
